The Utah Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, located in Ogden’s Union Station and sponsored by the Ogden Pioneer Days Foundation, is getting a head start on the Pioneer Day festivities with its fourth annual Cowboy Hall of Fame induction on July 10.
The free event will be held in Union Station’s lobby, with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Entertainment provided by Country band Coyote Moon, Robin Arnold and Cowboy poet Stan Tixier will start at 6:30 p.m., with the induction following at 7 p.m.
Suzy Van Hooser, Utah Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum chair, said of the Cowboy Hall of Fame, “it’s about the western lifestyle — how people came to the west, how they got here, the work they did when they got here.”
She said the majority of the people the museum inducts have a Western heritage, and that the hall of fame can serve as a lesson in history, as it is easy for that history to get lost.
“You lose track of that very easily — Pioneer Days thought this was something we should do to recognize men and women,” Van Hooser said.
Judy Anderson, Utah Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum co-chair, said the museum doesn’t honor just cowboys.
“We consider people who have been ranchers, cowboys, performers in the rodeo, professional singers, writers, artists — people who promote the western lifestyle,” she said.
