In 2004, the idea behind the National Day of the Cowboy was born nationally to permanently preserve and recognize our cowboy culture, western way of life and pioneer heritage for generations to come.
Ogden Pioneer Days soon embraced the notion, and today, one performance of the rodeo is dedicated to cowgirls and cowboys from Utah’s 29 counties who embody the western lifestyle across multiple facets. They are nominated by family members, friends, county commissioners, Utah Farm Bureau and Utah Cattlemen’s Association members and others.
Inductees and their families are invited to the rodeo, treated to a VIP dinner, given a goodie bag including Ogden Pioneer Days’ signature merchandise and introduced during the performance.
Additionally, Ogden’s Mayor issues a proclamation declaring the day as Ogden City’s National Day of the American Cowboy and includes that year’s inductees in the official document.
